AEROSMITH Singer: Money Does Not Bring Happiness
December 28, 2004AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler recently spoke to USA Today about money and whether or not he is happier now that he's making millions or when he was just eager for a break.
"I do believe money is like drugs," Tyler said, according to BostonHerald.com. "You may never know how to use it quite properly until you hit bottom — when you've had it and lost it. In most cases, you've either had it and lost it or never had enough to get into trouble with it. I've been in both places.''
Tyler knows one thing: Money does not bring happiness to a family.
"You can lose a spouse, your children by giving them too many presents, so that nothing means anything. You can buy too many shirts. There's only 365 days in the year. How many shirts do you need? So you have got to find a happy medium,'' he added.
Today, the rewards come in different ways, Tyler explained.
Using money from a Buick commercial he made using an old AEROSMITH song, he bought a piece of land by his house.
"That made me happy because I can't really go anywhere anymore. My home is my refuge. Being in the limelight, I can't go out for an hour without being harassed."
He says he gives much of his money to charities, including AIDS foundations.
"I'm grateful we can do that. Not everybody can."
